Prime Minister visits Ark Energy and Sun Metals

Major announcement to advance NQ hydrogen plans

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Ark Energy’s offices in Townsville on Saturday 14 January 2023 to announce the release of guidelines for the Townsville Region Hydrogen Hub, a program designed to accelerate northern Queensland’s hydrogen industry, backed by $70 million investment from the Australian Government.

Ark Energy is pioneering green hydrogen development in North Queensland and advancing plans to become Australia’s leading exporter of green ammonia to South Korea as part of the Han-Ho H2 Hub consortium.

The company’s Townsville offices are within the Sun Metals Green Industrial Precinct, which also includes the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub, set to power a fleet of hydrogen fuel-cell trucks serving Ark Energy’s co-located sister company, the Sun Metals Zinc refinery, later this year.
