Richmond Valley Solar & BESS

The development application and environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Richmond Valley Solar Farm is now on exhibition for comment until Wednesday 21 August 2024, and available on the NSW Government's Major Projects portal.

A public information session will be held in Ellangowan to provide interested residents and community members with the opportunity to discuss the proposal and the EIS with the project team.

  • Time: Open from 4pm to 6pm, Wednesday 14 August 2024
  • Location: Ellangowan Community Hall, 1630 Ellangowan Road

Refreshments will be provided. To assist with catering those intending to attend are requested to RSVP by email by Monday 12 August.

The area around Richmond Valley's Myrtle Creek is a great location for solar energy generation with an excellent solar resource and proximity to existing transmission infrastructure.

The project area is currently used for cattle grazing, and approximately 7 km east of Rappville and 25 km south of Casino in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.

The project involves a solar farm that could generate up to 500 megawatts and a long-duration battery energy storage system (BESS) to support the electricity needs of NSW consumers and the state's energy network.

The BESS will use LFP (Lithium-iron phosphate) technology and is capable of providing a power capacity of 275 megawatts and an energy storage capacity of up to 2,200 megawatt hours over 8 hours.

Input from interested community members and other stakeholders is welcome. Questions or comments can be sent to the project team via email.

Project updates are issued regularly. To receive these via email register here or if you would prefer to receive updates by post please email the project team your mailing address and a request to be added to the mailing list.
