Hydrogen Grand Prix Meet-up in Townsville

Teams test their cars for the 2025 H2GP PRO!

Horizon Educational’s Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) PRO is a program for high school students that challenges teams to design, engineer, build and race their own remote-controlled hydrogen fuel cell electric cars.

Ark Energy is a founding sponsor of the H2GP program in Australia and this year is sponsoring two teams set to race in the North Queensland 2025 H2GP PRO final in Townsville in May, Pimlico State High School from Townsville and Collinsville State High School from the Whitsunday region in north Queensland.

Townsville is also home to Ark Energy's own renewable hydrogen production and refuelling facility for heavy vehicles, the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub.

Pimlico State High School participated in a schools and sponsors meet-up and practise at CQUniversity's Townsville campus this week. It was an opportunity for students, teachers, and team sponsors to connect, and for the teams to test their cars through a 90-minute track session.

According to Ark Energy's Jacinta Coogan-West the meet-up offered teams an exciting practise run.

"The teams had a great opportunity to test their cars on a mini track, simulating race-day conditions. It was inspiring to see the teamwork in action, and witness the spirit of collaboration, with teams not only working hard to fix their own cars but also offering a helping hand to other teams."

The event built anticipation for race day, as students got a sneak peek at the progress of other teams.

"It’s great to see how the teams are progressing with their cars and preparations. We’re looking forward to cheering on our teams from Collinsville State High School and Pimlico State High School at the final in May."
