St Patricks Plains Wind Farm Update - October 2025

Project approved by TASCAT

On 25 August 2025 an appeal against Central Highlands Council’s planning approval for the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm was determined and the project was approved by the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (TASCAT). The appeal challenged Council’s approval on the grounds of noise limits and visual impacts. Both grounds were unsuccessful, and the project was approved with minor changes to the original conditions set by Council and the Environment Protection Authority Tasmania (EPA).

Next steps

The project will now proceed with work required to complete secondary approvals, ensure that all consent conditions are addressed, grid connection studies and arrangements for transporting components to site. This detailed design work is expected to take 9 to 12 months to complete. The wind farm is also awaiting final approval from the Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
