Students race in H2 Grand Prix
Future engineers race in H2GP 2024
Horizon Educational’s Hydrogen Grand Prix PRO program is a STEAM-based program for high school students where they design, build and race remote-controlled hydrogen fuel cell electric cars.
Ark Energy sponsored student teams from Collinsville State High School and Pimlico State High School in Townsville to participate in the Australian series of the 2024 H2GP PRO.
“The H2GP Pro involves hands-on production of a real-world application for hydrogen, and engages students in a fun challenge that combines science and engineering with important soft skills,” said Collinsville Green Energy Hub Senior Development Manager Trina Jensen.
Both teams raced in the Southeast Queensland Final on the Gold Coast on 12 June 2024. The final involved a 4-hour endurance race with 14 teams from across Queensland.
Pimlico SHS finished 4th and Collinsville SHS finished 8th.
Collinsville SHS won the award for ‘Best Design’ for their car, named Quackatron.
“We’re really proud of our teams and the excellent teamwork, project management skills and critical thinking they demonstrated at the final!,” Ms Jensen said.
