St Patricks Plains Wind Farm Update - September 2022

Project to bring local job opportunities

As Tasmania takes advantage of Australia’s energy transition it provides a huge opportunity for job growth in the state, with the majority of new jobs being created in regional areas.

Residents in and around the Central Highlands have asked about the types of jobs that might be available in association with the construction and operation of the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm, and the experience, skills and training that might be required.

Typically, the main construction contract for a utility scale wind project is awarded to a large contractor who then subcontracts many of the tasks, equipment and workers. Construction and operation of a utility-scale wind farm involves a range of jobs: labourers, machine operators and drivers, trades, professional services and managers.

Assessment update

The Environment Protection Authority Tasmania is currently reviewing the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to ensure it adequately addresses the Project Specific Guidelines. Upon receipt of their advice the EIS will be amended or updated as required and then the Development Application (DA) and EIS will be lodged with Central Highlands Council. This is likely to occur after the local council elections.

After review of the documentation by Council the application will be placed on public exhibition and stakeholders and community members will have the opportunity to review it and make a submission. During the exhibition period the project team will also host local information sessions
