Snowy Plains Wind Farm Receives Development Consent

Today the $50 Million Snowy Plains Wind Farm was given Development Consent by Snowy River Shire Council.

Snowy Plains Wind Farm will be located 30 km north west of Berridale near the NSW Snowy Mountains, and will comprise up to 16 wind turbines for a capacity of up to 30 Megawatts.

Final wind farm design works will now commence to allow construction in 2006 and full operation to commence in the first quarter of 2007.

Over a typical year, the Snowy Plains Wind Farm will supply up to 10,000 homes in NSW with clean renewable electricity. It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from coal fired power stations by up to 80,000 tonnes per annum, and help fix the shortfall in power generation capacity in NSW.

“We are pleased with the strong support from Snowy River Shire Council and its staff, as well as the local community in the Berridale region. We look forward to working with Council and the Community as we bring this $50 Million project to reality.” said Andrew Durran.

“This is a great outcome for the community.” said Martin Poole. “Around $10 Million will be spent in the local region over the life of the project, regional investment with regional jobs. In addition, Taurus Energy has committed annual funding to support local community projects.”
