Ark Pulse team take on 2026 Hydrogen Grand Prix
Ark Energy was proud to sponsor Pimlico State High School for Horizon Educational's 2026 Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) and cheer the team on at the North Queensland Final in Townsville on Wednesday, 29 July.
Pimlico SHS's team shows Adam Baillie MP their Ark Pulse race car.
The H2GP is a STEAM program for high school students, that requires teams to design, build and race remote-controlled hydrogen fuel cell electric cars.
Competing against 13 other teams from across the region, the Pimlico SHS H2GP team ‘Ark Pulse’ managed to quickly resolve a few early technical issues and race setbacks, to ensure their car completed the four-hour endurance race.
Their persistence and teamwork earned them an impressive third place in the modified category and fifth place overall.
The bright green Ark Pulse car was an easy one to keep track of in the race.
Ark Energy's Head of Risk and Safety Nancy Norton said it was exciting to watch the final and rewarding to see the H2GP program continue to grow.
"Ark Energy is proud to be a founding sponsor of the H2GP program in Australia, so this is the fourth year we have supported a team. It's been fantastic to see the students' enthusiasm and confidence grow, along with the quality of the cars and the level of competition.
"The H2GP program gives students experience in a real-world application for clean fuels, teaching science in a way that is fun and inspiring alongside important skills like communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
"What impressed me most was how the team responded when things didn't go to plan. They stayed focused, worked together to problem-solve and showed real determination to keep racing. That kind of hands-on learning makes programs like H2GP really valuable."
