Project added to national priority list
Project's Stage 2 and BESS added to Commonwealth's priority list
Bowmans Creek Wind Farm's Stage 2 and the Bowmans Creek Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) proposed as a modification to Stage 1, have both been added to the Australian Government's National Renewable Energy Priority List.
Developed by the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in collaboration with state and territory governments, the list identifies projects for additional support to accelerate the delivery of critical renewable energy infrastructure while ensuring they continue to meet all environmental and statutory requirements.
In March 2025, DCCEEW announced the inaugural list of 56 priority projects considered important for Australia's energy transition, 24 for transmission and 32 for generation and storage including including Ark Energy's Richmond Valley Solar & BESS in NSW, Boomer Green Energy Hub in Queensland and St Patricks Plains Wind Farm in Tasmania.
This month DCCEEW announced another 12 projects, including Bowmans Creek Wind Farm's Stage 2 and the Bowmans Creek BESS. Bowmans Creek Wind Farm Stage 2 will provide an additional 120 MW of generation and the Bowmans Creek BESS will provide a power capacity of 250 MW and energy storage capacity of up to 2,414 MWh over eight hours.
Damian Vermey, Head of Development at Ark Energy, said the listing reflects the important role these projects are expected to play in supporting the energy transition.
“The inclusion of Bowmans Creek Wind Farm Stage 2 and the Bowmans Creek BESS on the National Renewable Energy Priority List is an acknowledgement of the important role these clean energy infrastructure projects will play in Australia's energy future.
“We look forward to continuing to progress these projects in partnership with government, local communities and other stakeholders, ensuring they deliver lasting benefits for the region and contribute to Australia’s broader renewable energy ambitions.”
